Back in January, independent artist, Jacq released her debut single titled “It’s Not OK”. The song has been gaining in streams on Spotify over the last few months because the track resonates deeply with every single listener.
She fully releases emotional energy on this song, to the extent where you can see exactly where she is coming from. Jacq really does know how to transport the listener into herself so much so that you feel everything she is feeling when it comes to this song.
We’re so happy to have been given the opportunity to interview Jacq. We chatted with her about “It’s Not OK”, her musical influences, and what she hopes the future will bring her.
Hi Jacq, we hope you are doing well today, what have you been up to lately?
I haven’t been up to too much, just writing a lot and taking some time to myself.
You dropped your debut single “It’s Not OK” back in January, what was that like?
It was really exciting! It was like a dream come true to release a single, especially with such an amazing team. I had tons of support from my friends and family that made this whole experience even better.
What does the song mean to you? Is there a story behind the track?
This song means a lot to me in the sense that it was written during a very difficult time in my life. This song was originally a ballad to portray and express the feelings that were ripping me apart due to a toxic friendship. It was a way to cope with the whole situation. Then about a year passed and the song was done, the pain subsided and I was ready to spice it up and finally release it.
It’s hit the 1,000 mark on Spotify, how does it feel to know that that many people have heard the song?
1,000 people gave me a chance and whether or not they liked it, it still gave me a chance to spread my passion into their lives.
What has the reaction to the song been like?
It’s been mixed. My close friends and family have been super supportive. People I’m not as close with, and even people I don’t know…well, not so supportive. But it’s all in good fun. I just roll with it or shake it off.
We hope that new music is on its way, what can we expect from you?
Expect some covers, expect one or two originals. I hope to be busy with some gigs over the summer too!
Who do you draw inspiration from?
Musically, I draw a lot of my inspiration from artists like Hailee Steinfeld, Shawn Mendes, Demi Lovato, all those powerful voices that dominate the charts right now.

What do you hope to achieve in the next few years?
I hope to expand my fan base and experiment with new styles of music as well as create more.
What advice do you have for people who are just starting out on their music career?
Keep at it. It’s time consuming, pricey, and even annoying at times, but you won’t regret it. The feeling you have when you’re dropping your first single is just unforgettable. I know I still have a long way to go, but even though it feels far away, I know I can get there with hard work and dedication.
