The Weeknd has unveiled the dark and gritty music video for his new track ‘Starboy’, featuring Daft Punk.
At the beginning of the video, we see a Beauty Behind the Madness-era version of The Weeknd, complete with signature dreads, being held hostage by a man in a balaclava. He is then brutally suffocated by the masked man, who turns out to be The Weeknd in his present Starboy era, complete with a fresh haircut.
The Weeknd continues to say goodbye to his past, as he walks around the flat, smashing up trophies, plaques and records with a neon pink crucifix. At the end of the video, he drives off in a car, with a panther sat in the passenger seat. Daft Punk also make a quick cameo, appearing as a portrait on the wall.
This video is both bizarre and ingenious, so much so that the singer earned himself a MTV EMA nomination for ‘Best Video’ yesterday, before the video was even released!

The Weeknd officially announced his brand new album Starboy last week, which will drop on November 25. The cover art for the album revealed his new look, therefore preparing fans of the change that was going to come. However, the music video for the title track, directed by Grant Singer, fully confirms that the star is ready to stun the world all over again.
If you weren’t convinced before, the new era of The Weeknd is officially here.
