Woolworths slashes price of Western Australian Rock Lobster once again

The festive season is right around the corner and, with current cost-of-living pressures, one supermarket has revealed it is discounting luxury items in time for Christmas.

Woolworths has announced that 150 items across its luxury food range will have their prices cut or locked in at the same figure from 2021. The promotion runs from tomorrow until December 27.

One of the items to see a price drop is the festive favourite WA rock lobster. The supermarket sold the lobster for $29 each last year, but this year the price is down to $27.

Another hugely popular seafood treat, Australian Crystal Bay cooked tiger prawns, have also been reduced by $2/kg while Superior Gold smoked salmon 180g is $1 cheaper.

Meanwhile items such as Woolworths brie, Woolworths half leg ham, whole seasoned chicken, bonbons and Woolworths pavlova base have all had their 2021 price tag locked in.

Woolworths Supermarkets managing director Natalie Davis said: “We know this year, more than ever, customers are looking for great value when it comes to entertaining their friends and family during the festive season.

“As today’s Fresh Food People, we are focused on ensuring we have the best Australian fresh products available for the Christmas table, and that customers can get their Woolies’ worth as they manage the impacts of the rising cost of living on their budgets.

“Through our price commitment to hold last year’s price on customers’ favourite Christmas classics including Woolworths half leg ham and pavlova, as well as adding 150 seasonal essentials to our Christmas prices dropped program, we hope that it will help all our customers focus on the little moments that make the season special to them.”

Woolworths also promised its Odd Bunch range, where Aussie fruit and vegetables don’t fit the normal standard, will be sold at 20 per cent less than the standard shelf price of equivalent produce.

The Christmas season price drop is in addition to the Prices Dropped for Spring program, which runs until the end of November, that saw 200 products have their price frozen.

Prices drop for rock lobster favourite

While news that WA rock lobsters are being reduced in price to $27 each from tomorrow, those who remember Christmas last year might want to hold off until the festive day is upon them before buying up big.

In 2021, Coles discounted the item to $22 three days before Christmas.

Woolies then followed suit and did the same.

And back in 2020, the luxury item was heavily discounted by both Woolworths and Coles.

However, the frenzy that followed the huge price cut then led to a limit of four lobsters per customer per transaction as customer demand skyrocketed.
